Mysteries in the Desert

In many ways Walker Lake is a major character in Treasures of Darkness. It is not really a place. The Native Americans understand. Walker Lake is more of a dream or an experience. The Irish would call it one of the "thin places" of the earth where nature and spirit meet.

When the lake is absolutely smooth, you can hardly know which way is up. The road around Walker Lake demands you slow down and pay attention. This is not a casual place. Walker Lake requires respect. The Paiutes believe water babies live there. I do too. I believe Ivy met them and they transformed her life. Go and be still.
