Yes, I've shamelessly used the title of the most popular movie in the last few years to get your attention. I know frozen and desert aren't ususally used together except in Antarctica, but in Tonopah time truly is frozen.

The mining museum isn't really a museum. It's more like the Twilight Zone. It's as if the workers were raptured away leaving everything perfectly in place. You can almost hear the sounds of mill equipment hammering the air into submission. Newspapers with Sunday comics hang on walls still readable. The smell of creoste and hot metal create a visceral experience.

In a time of economic depression mining was, and is, the salvation for many. Miners who worked in a good mine were the lucky ones. Some tried dry mining on their own; sifting mounds of dust to glean a day's food. Some worked in mines that treated mules better than men. It's incredible to consider the wealth Tonopah produced and every dreamer wonders how much is still to be found.

Here's a treasure you can definitely find. N 38 06 862 W 117 22 995
