Lauren Bacall was a really classy actress. If you don't know her, check her out, you will fall in love just like Humphrey Bogart did. Even as Miss Bacall aged, instead of fighting time she embraced dignity. So unlike moms who dress like their teen daughters as if youth resided in a pair of Converse hightops. Old western towns are like that. Some fade but keep a pure reflection of their halcyon days while others pretend to be "the old west" for tourists who don't know the difference, very much like lipstick on a pig. These fake towns feature overpriced coffee, icecream and generally clean bathrooms.
Goldfield is a true fading lady full of architecture, stories and people who still live and work there. There is a great book called "When All The Gold Was Gone" by Wanda Stovall Cox that tells the story of Goldfield's decline from a child's eye view during the 1920's.
Go check her out, you might fall in love with Goldfield and her stories. Take your own coffee. More stories can be found at nevada150.org
To encourage your personal adventure, I've placed geocaches with collectible coins in honor of Nevada's special birthday and the publication of Treasures of Darkness; the true story of my family's lost fortunes.
